Who the h*ll is this?

This page is if you suspect we might be a bunch of jerks.

Who we are

My name is Jason Harmer. I was a production manager for over 10 years. I started CrewDriver to build better communication tools for crew and the companies we work for... mostly because everything else doesn't work the way we do.

We have a unique relationship in production with our employers, it's absurd to try and use restaurant or automotive software to schedule us.

The thing sending texts

That's our product, CrewDriver. It was first released in 2012 and has sent over 1 million text messages to date. We work with companies mainly in the production industry and schedule crew for some big arenas and convention centres.

Anywhere there's a "casual on-call relationship" we can fit. This roughly means if someone offers you work, you have the option to turn it down just how most freelance crew work is handled.

How is this different

  • When you get an offer from the software, you have a little time to respond. Then it offers the shift out to a few more people. The offers are sent gradually, ie. there's 2 shifts on a call, go out 2 crew at a time.
  • We track how well we're getting you work. We usually run a 90% success rate for every "Yes" message that comes in.
  • No one except you, not even your employer, can confirm you for work using CrewDriver. The "Yes" message must originate from your phone.
  • We stop texting at 10pm and don't start again until 8am (unless it's an emergency).
  • You don't have to turn work down by sending in a "No" (the software times out after a while), but it will offer to the next people on the list faster if you do. We always encourage paying it forward.

Why trust us

  • Our software is secure:
    • Connections to our website AND to the text message gateway all use SSL encryption.
    • We've passed a formal Privacy Impact Assessment and meet the security requirements to work with government agencies.
  • We've had clients since we first started.
  • We silo your data in our software. If you work for multiple companies using our software, each company can only see what you've agreed to with that company alone. Your calendar is your business.
  • You're opting in, any employer can't send your work offers unless you respond to their specific intro message.

I care that you're treated fairly

I come from the production industry; I wanted to build a tool that makes it easier on the call stewards, but doesn't screw us to get that efficiency.

I'm always keen to hear ways we can make the software better. You can call me 778-876-9675 or email me at j@crewdriverapp.com or all of us at workers@crewdriverapp.com.
